Hello from Germany!
Our day started off great... on the airplane! We had an amazing flight, had three seats for just the two of us! We left Chicago on time, of course they gave us a snack (cloud hoppers) pretty much right away. Then shortly after we got the most delicious dinner I've ever eaten (just kidding...it was awful)! The best part about our first flight is that every seat had their own touchscreen, so we got to watch where our flight was on how much longer till we would arrive. They of course also had movies and music on the screen as well! I got to sleep for about 2 hours on the plane and the rest of the time I was either watching a movie or just listening to music, luckily we had no screaming children on our flight!! They fed us a good breakfast when we were about an hour from Frankfurt, we had fruit, muffin and shortbread cookies!
After breakfast... we landed in Frankfurt International Airport and went straight to the bathroom! We got past customs and found our next gate! We also grabbed a bite to eat and then just waited for our next flight, to Hamburg!
When we arrived in Hamburg, Sandra & Katja were there to pick us up!! After we packed in all the bags in to their tiny little car, they showed us around the city of Hamburg. First place we went to was the Michel Church, she said this was the most famous landmark of Hamburg. We went inside the church and also up into the bell tower, where we could see the whole city of Hamburg from up high!
After seeing this beautiful church, we walked down to the Harbor, which is the newest part of Hamburg. This area is where all the rich people live, there were new, very modern houses along with a new Elphilharmonie (a new opera house). While we were down there we had lunch at Barrossa, where Zayne and I had this delicious croque (toasted sub sandwich)! Zayne also had his first German beer at this place! After lunch, we went to a Miniatur-Eisenbahnausstellung "miniature train exhibition" this is where they had mini displays of the world.
Another place we went to was the center of Hamburg, which is where they had the train station and shops were. We walked around there and also went to the Jungfernstieg, there was a river (Alster) and boats and this is one of the popular hangout areas!
After our very exciting day in the city we made our way back to Schlagsdorf, which is where Sandra and her family live! We didn't really see much of this village because we both fell asleep in the car and when we got out it was already dark! When we got home, they made us a beautiful dinner!! A real homemade German dinner! We had German potato salad, klops (meatballs), wiener wurstchen and tomatoes & onions! After dinner, we sat around and visited with the family then watched Germanys Next Top Model!! After our wonderful day, we took a shower and went off to bed!!
Well, this was our first day on our trip! Now off to enjoy our second day!
xoxo... Britni
